The Barrilla Chronicles

Joseph Campanella had trained several months for a mission that, once the details were revealed, seemed beyond any reasonable chances of success. But here he was about to take a leap of faith to accomplish a destiny that history, as it was written to that point in time, said he would fulfill.

The noise outside the chamber was now at an ear-shattering pitch as the results of five years of scientific research were now operating at full capacity. Equipment was banging, shrieking, and churning at a fevered level – yet from where he stood the traveler heard little. The six-inch-thick Plexiglas shield and surrounding transport portal equipment had silenced most of the clamor inside the compartment. What noise still filtering its way in was erased by his incredible mental ability to silence the outside world when needed.

Severed Ties

Ex-detective Nick Cooper sits at the Barnes and Noble promoting his latest novel – Davin Ross’ Last Case, The Marshall Kent Story. It’s the fourth and final chapter in the fictional life of Cooper’s somewhat alter ego, Detective Davin Ross. The event was a normal and uneventful day at the book signing until the “Frenchman” arrived. This would be the writer’s first encounter with the man who would eventually target Cooper and those close to him in his deadly quest for revenge. It is Cooper’s own novel that the murderer uses as his killing guide. However, Cooper realizes this far too late as body number one is soon discovered.

The Joys of Writing

Writing fiction novels has been one of the most relaxing, satisfying, and worthwhile things I have ever done.  It allows me, as an author, to escape into the world of creativity as I visualize a variety of narratives and storylines that seem to ebb and flow through my mind on an almost daily basis.  Building plots, developing characters and providing vivid backgrounds, and nuances is an exciting and stimulating process.  And of course, who would ever forget about the many amazing human emotions that books and audiobooks elicit in all of us.

For me, the anxious anticipation of the thriller, or the imaginative realm of sci-fi, are worlds that bring me to the edge of my seat. As I strive to provide my readers with a look into those worlds, I am constantly provided with validations of how much fun it is to be a writer. So, if you love thrillers or science fiction books, you might want to read (or Listen to) “Severed Ties” and “The Barilla Chronicles: The Jose Campanella Journey.”

If you love a good who-done-it that was so prevalent with detective novels of years gone by, you will thoroughly enjoy reading about the adventures of the ex-Detective turned novelist, Nick Cooper. From his time as a Chicago PD beat cop, till a fateful encounter while a detective, Cooper learns that past good deeds have their consequences. A man, someone who believes he has been wronged by Cooper while on the force, uses the plot-line of one of Cooper’s novels as his guide for revenge. Unfortunately, Cooper learns this all too late.

Plots for Sci-fi novels are only limited by one’s imagination. Sergeant Brant Montgomery, an Explosive Ordinance Disposal Technician during Desert Thunder, finds himself in a near-death moment when providence steps in. In the Barilla Chronicles, Montgomery is miraculously healed utilizing a previously unknown Nano-molecular technology. Once injected, the serum allows his body to be sent back in time in an effort to thwart the assassination of Winston Churchill. If you like historical drama with a twist, you will most assuredly love this book.

There’s nothing better than reading a book that you do not want to put down.

That is the main goal I strive for with the books that I write. Within just a few chapters I want you to know the characters well enough that you will be able to envision them in your mind. I endeavor to develop plots that will quickly pull you in and won’t let you out – with the occasional twist or two to keep the reader slightly off balance.

With my first two books, written in 2010 and 2014 respectively, I developed two characters, former Chicago Detective Nick Cooper and Desert Thunder Veteran Joseph Campanella, that have strong confident personalities. They are not easily deterred or discouraged once their purpose has been set. Yet, each possesses a sense of compassion and vulnerability that gives them a true human interactive quality.

It was not until 2016 and 2018 that I finally made the effort to publish the two books I had completed. In “Severed Ties,” ex-detective turned author Nick Cooper tries to understand why a blood-thirsty and obviously deranged killer has targeted him for revenge. A revenge that oddly follows the killing plots that Nick himself wrote in one of his books. You can play detective as you uncover the clues that can pinpoint the real killer together with Cooper. You can even try to see the world through the eyes of the criminal in order to learn more about his identity, his history, and his insane reasons for revenge.

If you want to immerse yourself in a good science fiction novel, one that blends that genre with the backdrop of World War 2, I believe my “The Barilla Chronicles: The Jose Campanella Story” will effectively pull you in into the conundrum that is time travel. How will his actions affect the future? And, based on his mission, will he succeed so that history, as it had been written up to his trip back to World War 2, remains the same history. Readers will be compelled to explore the obvious theories and concepts of what could or could not happen. They will ponder the same question Joseph asked himself whether he should go. Yet, if he doesn’t make the trip, the world cannot be the same.
